Unity Prayer Watch
Since 1957 the Unity Prayer Watch has assured that prayer for the work and witness of our world-wide Moravian Church is being offered somewhere in the world 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The Prayer Watch is a renewal of the “hourly intercession”, begun in Herrnhut in 1727 which continued uninterrupted for 100 years.
The time assigned to members of our Southern Province is December 31, 2013 to January 18, 2014
Union Cross Moravian Church will be praying from 8 AM until 4 PM for God’s mercy, hope and peace throughout the world.
Suggested Prayer Topics
- the president of the United States, and all elected officials as they seek to govern, that they might lead with justice and concern for the poor and those without voice;
- ecumenical relationships: the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and The Episcopal Church with whom we are in full communion, and our covenant partnership with the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) ; the bilateral dialogue with the United Methodist Church; our participation in the work of Christian Churches Together (CCT), the National Council of Churches of Christ, the World Council of Churches, and state councils of churches (Virginia, Florida, North Carolina).
- increasing peace, mutual respect and harmony; and
- the issues of health care, violence, employment, poverty, and the environment (to name a few) that impact the people of our continent and our faithful response to people of great need.
