Domestic violence victims find themselves in difficult to escape living situations. Often they struggle to establish the residential and financial independence from their abuser.. Trauma and mental/emotional damage is often encountered by the children caught up in these households.
Domestic Violence
- 1 in 3 women and 1 in 4 men experienceomestic violence. Typically by someone close to them
- Approximatly 20,000 calls are made to domestic hotlines each day
- On average, 20 people per minute are physically abused by an intimate partner.
- A weapon is used in 19% of domestic violence incidents.
- Women who are victims of intimate partner violence are most likely to be between the ages of 18 to 24.
The Unity Women’s Desk invites Moravians to help stock the local Domestic Violence Shelter.
