Christmas Candlelight Service
On December 21, 2014, there will be a candlelight Lovefeast at Union Cross Moravian Church to celebrate the birth of the Christ child. The service will start at 7 o’clock that evening. The band will play prior to the service.
For those not familiar with a Lovefeast, it is a simple meal served with a special spiced bun and a cup of sweetened milky coffee. A Lovefeast seeks to strengthen the bonds and the spirit of harmony, goodwill, and congeniality, as well as to forgive past disputes. It’s a time to open our hearts to the love of Christ and share it with our brothers and sisters.
Before the partaking of the Lovefeast elements a simple Moravian Blessing is said. While the congregation partakes of the bun and coffee the choir sings songs and special instrumentals may be performed. After everyone has been feed. Candles are distributed to each participant. The candle is a beeswax candle wrapped with red crepe paper. The minister will usually explain the significance of the candle. From one lit candle, the flame is passed throughout the church until the whole church is a vibrant light in the darkness. Each candle represents each person and just as the flame spread from one candle to another the love of Christ is spread from one soul to another as we proclaim him Lord.
Come join us as we celebrate the birth of
Jesus Christ our Lord.
